BREAKING: Millers part company with Stubbs

ALAN Stubbs has left his position as manager of Rotherham United.

The decision was made today with the Millers bottom of the Championship, six points adrift of safety.

Last night's 4-2 reverse at Birmingham City, their sixth straight defeat, was the final straw for the board.

A club statement said: "Rotherham United have parted company with first team manager Alan Stubbs, assistant manager John Doolan and first team coach Andy Holden with immediate effect.

“Following a board meeting this morning it was felt that a change of first team management was needed to give the club the best possible opportunity to preserve our Championship status.

“The club would like to place on record our thanks to Alan, John and Andy for their effort and professionalism, and we wish them well for the future.

“The board have now started the process of appointing a new first team manager.”

Stubbs presided over only 13 league games, winning just once and hampered by a defensive record which saw them ship 32 goals plus another five to League Two Morecambe in the League Cup.

After being unveiled as the new Millers boss in June, Stubbs presided over a radical overhaul of the squad, introducing 13 new players.

He had come into the job with his stock high after winning the Scottish Cup with Hibs at the end of last season.
