Millers manager Matt Taylor expects an announcement early next week.

ROTHERHAM United are on the brink of bringing striker Andre Green to AESSEAL New York Stadium on a permanent deal.

The former Aston Villa prospect, who has spent the last two seasons in Slovakia with Slovan Bratislava, scored in both games of his ten-day trial spell and has agreed terms with the club.

Speaking after the Championship Millers' 3-0 friendly win at League One Lincoln City this afternoon, manager Matt Taylor says he hopes the contract is signed in time for the free-agent centre-forward, who can also play on the flank, to feature in Tuesday's behind-closed-doors game against Bradford City.

"I think we're close, if not there," the boss said. "Hopefully we'll have some positive news on Monday. It's Saturday night now and nothing gets done on a Sunday. The only thing we have to wait on is international clearance."

Such clearance should be a straightforward process and matters will be speeded up because there is no requirement for a work permit to be granted by the Home Office as the Solihull-born player holds a British passport.

"It's just an email chain between the respective (English and Slovakian) FAs," Taylor said. "That shouldn't delay things for too long. We want him to play on Tuesday because he needs more game-time."

If all goes well, Green could make the starting line-up for next Saturday's second-tier opening-day clash at Stoke City.

Sheffield Wednesday are one of the 25-year-old's former clubs and he is keen to return to the South Yorkshire region for family reasons.

Another Rotherham target, Christ Tiehi, watched the action at the LNER Stadium today while he waits for his work permit to come through.

The midfielder, also 25, was born in France and is contracted to Slovan Liberec in the Czech Republic so his move requires Home Office approval.

The Millers are understood to be paying Liberec a fee for his services.

Today's victory, secured by spectacular goals from Ollie Rathbone and Cafu and a silky team move finished off by Jordan Hugill, was Rotherham's last public outing of pre-season.
