Football club eyes step up

AN ambitious football club are on the brink of a move up the league pyramid.

Swallownest Miners Welfare hope to find out next week whether they can join Parkgate and Maltby Main in the Northern Counties East League.

Inspectors will visit on Monday to see whether their ground is good enough and may make a decision on the night.

Swallownest officials are confident they will get the nod having carried out extensive improvements including installing floodlights, a refreshements cabin and turnstyles.

The first team currently plays in the County Senior League and sit in third spot.

Swallownest's promotion would take the number of Rotherham teams in the NCEL back up to three, with Dinnington Town having dropped out last year.
