Extra options for Warnock

NEIL Warnock could soon have some extra senior experience to call upon for Rotherham United’s relegation fight.

Long-term injury absentee Stephen Kelly is expected to return to training towards the end of next week and skipper Lee Frecklington is also around a week away.

Luciano Becchio’s calf injury will rule him out for longer but striker Leon Best is back in full training and, according to Warnock, needs only another full week before a full return.

It’s good news for as he prepares for his first match in charge at home to Birmingham City today.

An expectant crowd of 11,000 will make for a cracking atmosphere and Warnock says taking on one of the division’s better teams may help his players.

“Gary Rowett’s sides are well organised, good at set pieces and catch you on the break. We’ve got to be ready for that and cause them problems as well,” he said.

“In a way it’s better playing a Birmingham rather than a lower side when the pressure is on.

“There are easier jobs but I think we can upset a few.”

Having had only one training session with the players so far and still getting on first-name terms, Warnock isn’t planning to make major changes.

“They’re a genuine bunch and I’m looking forward to seeing how these lads play for me,” he added.

Rotherham approach the match three points shy of safety in the Championship and chasing a first win in four.

Kick-off is 3pm.
