Evans steps up player search

MANAGER Steve Evans is pressing on with finding fresh talent for Rotherham United after missing out on Watford pair Lloyd Dyer and Lewis McGugan.

Evans wanted to take the talented pair on loan but was told they were not available for transfer at this time.

Play-maker McGugan is rated one of the best midfielders outside the Premier League and has enhanced his reputation since joining Watford from Nottingham Forest a year ago.

Dyer scored as a sub when Watford beat the Millers at the New York Stadium recently. He only joined from Leicester this summer but has yet to start a Championship game for them and is rumoured to be unsettled.

Evans is looking elsewhere but won’t make rash decisions before Monday's deadline for permanent transfers.

He told the Advertiser: “We'd like to get a wide player and someone up front but we are in terrific shape. Frazer Richardson, Paul Green and Ryan Hall will all return to the group and will be available for selection after the weekend and if we add one or two more on top of that then we would be pleased.

“I'm trying to get players in. I would prefer permanent signings and so would any other manager but if we need to go into the loan market, we will take that.

“We don't want more the of the same type of player we've already got, we want people who bring something new.”
