Evans' Millers fall to Shrews

IT was a losing start for new Rotherham United boss Steve Evans at Shrewsbury Town this afternoon.

The Millers went down 3-1 to the automatic promotion chasers despite an excellent first half in which they took an early lead through Ryan Cresswell.

The centre-half notched his second goal in as many games in only the second minute, rising to send a dipping header just the crossbar after Gareth Evans’ initial corner was only half cleared.

Alex Revell, Jason Taylor and Lewis Grabban all went close as Rotherham, first to everything all over the park, went on to boss the first half.

They were set go to in at the interval deservedly in front until stoppage time when Shrews striker Terry Gornell rifled in low from distance with the aid of a slight deflection.

Buoyed by the goal, the hosts came out and made it 2-1 a couple of minutes into the second half when Nicky Wroe rounded goalkeeper Rhys Taylor and squared for Aaron Wildig to tuck in from close range.

Gornell’s second of the game on 67 minutes, taking a back heel from James Collins to shoot home, gave the Millers too much to do to get back in it.

Cresswell and substitute Sam Hoskins went closest to pulling  a goal back late on.
