Evans hails super victory

MANAGER Steve Evans hailed a “fantastic” result as Rotherham United upset high-flying Leyton Orient at the New York Stadium.

Alex Revell’s injury time winner against his former club sealed a fourth victory in five after Moses Odubajo’s second-half equaliser had looked like earning the visitors a point. Wes Thomas had opened the scoring early on with his first goal for the club.

“It was a fantastic result against a good side,” said Evans. “We should have been comfortably in front by half time and then Orient had a go and it became end to end. In those games it is always going to take something special to win it and we produced it.”

Deadline day signing Nicky Adams, captured for an undisclosed fee from Crawley Town, missed out because the deal was not completed in time. The winger is expected to be in contention for next Saturday’s trip to Colchester.

“Nicky will add something to what we’ve got,” added Evans. “He’s a gifted young man and we’d tried a couple of previous times to get him through the door.

“We also tried to do one or two other bits of business that didn’t happen but we have a fantastic group of players and I’m blessed to work with them.”

The latest win cemented Rotherham’s place in the League One play-off zone. They're fifth, with a cushion of six points over seventh-placed Peterborough.
