Evans and Alfie at the double for victorious Millers

GARETH Evans and Adam Le Fondre both struck twice as Rotherham United came from behind to beat Plymouth Argyle at Home Park this afternoon.

After a goalless first half, the Millers cut loose to notch a deserved 4-1 win and make the long journey worthwhile.

Argyle took the lead three minutes after the break when debutant Will Atkinson, the ex-Miller in on loan from Hull City, cut in from the flank to flash a shot inside Conrad Logan’s right-hand post.

But then Evans turned the match on its head with two goals in seven minutes, first racing free to bury a left-footer past Jake Cole in the home goal and then meeting a Le Fondre cross with a thumping header for 2-1 on 59 minutes.

Danny Schofield sent Le Fondre clear to make it 3-1 on 82 minutes and the little striker rolled in the fourth to put extra gloss on the scoreline.

They were Le Fondre’s first goals of the season and Evans’ first since his summer move from Bradford City.
