Don't write us off, says Evans

ROTHERHAM United manager Steve Evans has warned it’s too early to write the Millers off, saying: “Cut us some slack!”

Along with Blackburn Rovers, they are the only team without a Championship win and slipped to their fifth defeat in seven games at Brighton on Tuesday.

Evans has also had to bat away speculation linking him with the vacant manager's job at Peterborough United, speculation he has addressed this week by underlining his intention to stay with the Millers.

It's the most challenging time of his three years in the job but speaking ahead of tomorrow's match against Cardiff City at the AESSEAL New York Stadium, he wants the sceptics to put things in perspective and his players to stay strong.

Evans told the Advertiser: “I hear that some clubs have had decent starts when they're only four points above us.

“It's a surprise to me that after only seven games people are writing us off. No-one is writing Leeds United off or, despite their investment, Sheffield Wednesday. If we beat Cardiff and they lose to Fulham then we'll be only a point behind them. It's fine lines."

Skipper Lee Frecklington is the only injury absentee for the weekend.
