Derbyshire likes winning formula

CLEAR, concise advice and self-belief have prised open the door to Championship survival, says Matt Derbyshire.

And the experienced striker-turned-wide-man believes that Rotherham United can make meaningful progress up the division next season if Neil Warnock is retained and some quality recruits join the current group.

Derbyshire (30) has played under many managers in his time and says the changes Warnock has made to the Millers mark him out as one of the best.

“Neil came in and said 'this is what we want.'  You don't concede in this position, you don't do that,' so everyone knows exactly what they're doing,” he explained.

“He is able to relax you. He takes a lot of pressure off the guys and lets us go out and enjoy our football.

“He is up there with the best managers I have worked with, purely because of what we have done and because I'm playing. Any manager can be fantastic but if you're not playing then it's no good as an individual.

“I can see us doing well next year if the gaffer is here and who knows what that might involve?

“You've seen Leicester City, anything can happen in football. I'm not saying we can go on to win promotion and then the Premier League but who knows?”
