Defender signs up for Millers

ROTHERHAM United have snapped up their ninth signing of the summer in defender Lawrie Wilson.

The 25-year-old left-back has joined from Morecambe on a one-year contract but the Millers also retain an option on him for another season.

Wilson made 123 appearances for the Shrimps and was formerly at Chester City, where he started a similar number of matches. Prior to that he was a youngster at Everton and was capped for England at U18 and U19 level.

Manager Steve Evans said: "It has taken a number of weeks but I have signed the left- back I identified as my first choice.

''I thought he would have a number of options with one of them being an offer from Morecambe so I am delighted we have signed him. He clearly sees the ambition at Rotherham United."
