Cup cave-in frustrates Ronnie

ROTHERHAM United players will be putting in extra work on the training ground after crashing out of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy last night.

Manager Ronnie Moore slammed his side's defending in the 5-2 defeat to League One side Huddersfield Town at Don Valley Stadium and said it was time they got back to basics.

He wants to see an improvement by the time Oxford United visit Don Valley in the league on Saturday as the Millers, without a win in five games now, attempt to get back on track.

Moore said: "It doesn't matter whether you're playing a quality side or the Dog and Duck, if you defend the way we did then you're in trouble.

"We were just found wanting at times in our defending and we'll be in working on that morning and afternoon because we need to get back to the basics of defending and getting the right shape.

"We'll be in Thursday morning and afternoon and on Friday to get it right for the Oxford game."

The Millers fell behind inside a minute to a Jordan Rhodes strike.

Ryan Taylor levelled with his first goal of the season on 11 minutes but the Terriers survived a miss by Ryan Pope to go 3-1 up at half time with two goals in five minutes from Rhodes and Arsenal loanee Benik Afobe.

Scott Arfield and Afobe added two more in the second half before Millers skipper Ryan Cresswell headed a late consolation in the third round tie.

Moore added: "We knew it was going to be tough but it's even tougher when you concede after 30 seconds.

"It was pleasing the way we got back into the game at 1-1 and then Tom Pope had a great chance to go through and make it 2-1 but it's all about things going for you at the right time."

Defenders Johnny Mullins and Nick Fenton and striker Ryan Taylor all picked up injuries, with Mullins already rated doubtful for Saturday's clash.

Moore said he might have to bring in a right-back to fill the gap.
