Buxton looks to build momentum

DEFENDER Lewis Buxton will happily accept untidy goals and chunks of good fortune as long as they produce much-needed points for Rotherham United.

Saturday's late own goal decider against Cardiff City handed them only their seventh win in 30 Championship matches since the turn of the year.

With the league producing so many tight matches, teams need to make the most of every piece of luck that comes their way and had Rotherham failed to nail ten-men Cardiff, it would have left them two points adrift at the bottom and dealt a blow to confidence.

Now they're right on the heels of the teams above and Buxton, the former Wednesday man, says the Millers need to press on now and scrap for every single advantage.

“It was a big relief to get our first victory and it doesn't matter how the winner went in, we'll take it,” he told the Advertiser.

“We deserved a bit of luck because even against 11 men we outplayed Cardiff in the first half. It was disappointing to let the penalty in before half time but that little bit of luck came at the end and we'll take that as well.

“Top to bottom, every game is hard in this league and remember we ran Brighton close last week.

“Most of the games you play in are usually decided by a margin of one goal and there's been plenty of draws.

“We just have to take the Cardiff result and build a bit of momentum."
