He arrives with a good pedigree too, having first been offered a contract at Portman Road by Jim Magilton shortly before his sacking a couple of two years ago.

His departure threw Brown's future into the air as the tough-talking former Manchester United star Roy Keane took the reins.

The young defender had only a week to impress the new man but did so and went on to play 12 league and four cup games for the Tractor Boys last season.

"I've come to Rotherham to get my future back on track and hopefully the club can grow and I can grow as a player as well," he said.

"Ipswich didn't do that well last season but I had a good season personally and I felt it was time to move on and get games at this stage of my career.

"I need to grow and learn and become a better player and there's no better place to do that than here. Andy Scott is a top man. He made the club look good in my eyes and that's why I'm here."
