Big striker joins Millers

ROTHERHAM United have made their first move to cover for the loss of Adam Le Fondre by signing striker Brett Williams on loan until the end of January.

The 23-year-old joins from Reading shortly after Le Fondre completed his move in the opposite direction for an undisclosed fee.

Williams made his name in non-league football with Eastleigh, where his goals persuaded the Royals to pay £50,000 for him 18 months ago.

Millers chief Andy Scott said: "Brett is someone I have kept an eye on.

"He is a good size, over six foot. Obviously he is untried but this is an opportunity for him to be involved in league football. He is a goal scorer, he is quick, strong and I am sure he will take to League Two.

"They really like him at Reading. I went to see them a couple of times at the end of last season. I know Brian McDermott and all the staff well there and they all hold him in high regard."

Scott has also lined up another signing before tomorrow's transfer deadline and confirmed that the player will cost a fee.

The Millers are unbeaten at the top of League Two after Saturday's 3-0 beating of Gillingham. They are away to Swindon Town on Saturday in a live TV game (12.15pm kick-off).
