Bester: look at the bigger picture

ANDRE Bester stressed after Saturday’s glum 15-0 defeat at home to second-bottom London Scottish that fans must start to address the bigger picture at Clifton Lane.

Amid growing grumbles from the terraces, Rotherham signed off their regular season by fielding a second string against the Exiles—themselves shorn of three key men—and promptly turning in a disjointed display which rarely looked like gleaning any points.

It was a million miles away from what will be required to make an impact in the play-offs next week—but Bester remains adamant that his game plan will pay off.

“We got out of the match what we wanted,” he said. afterwards. “We wanted to give game time to the players because that’s very important to us.

“It is all a means to an end for us, our total priority is the promotion play-offs and we have to plan for them accordingly. What position you are in the league doesn’t really matter because you have to play all of the best teams and you have to win those games.

“The result doesn’t matter, what matters starts in two weeks time and we need to give ourselves a chance. The only way in which we can do that is by effectively managing our resources.”
