Barnsley first at New York Stadium

SOUTH Yorkshire rivals Barnsley will be the Millers' first opponents at the New York Stadium.

They visit for a pre-season curtain-raiser on Saturday, July 21 (3pm), with neighbouring Doncaster Rovers to follow the following Tuesday, July 24 (7.45pm).

Stadium manager Paul Davis said: "We're delighted to be welcoming Barnsley and Doncaster to the New York Stadium and we are sure both sides will fill their quota of away support, reflecting the enormous interest in the stadium."

Both matches will be played at reduced capacity for safety reasons.

Davis added: "We have to satisfy the local authority and emergency services that we are able to run a safe and secure matchday operation. Playing the two friendlies against Barnsley and Doncaster Rovers will give us the chance to look at all of these matters at reduced capacities of 50 per cent and 75 per cent respectively.

"We hope both fixtures will attract good sized crowds, allowing us to carry out all of our tests robustly.

"Subject to all the relevant parties being satisfied with the first two friendlies, we hope the next fixture (to be announced in due course) will be our first full capacity match at the New York Stadium."

The Millers will also travel to Mansfield Town on Saturday, August 4, again with a 3pm kick-off.
