Away success delights Millers chief

ROTHERHAM United boss Steve Evans says his players showed character in recovering from their first defeat of the season to collect three points at Brentford.

Beaten the previous week despite being the better side against much-fancied Peterborough United, the Millers put the setback behind them as they battled out a 1-0 win at Griffin Park on Saturday courtesy of Mark Bradley's first-half header.

The victory, which were secured by a fantastic stoppage-time save by Scott Shearer, took them back into the top six in League One.

Evans said: "We were in heroes in defeat against Peterborough and this time we were heroes in victory. I always said we will lose games but it is about how you react and we showed real character.

"We knew Brentford would have a lot of possession but we battled hard and made three or four good chances on the counter-attack in the second half. Scott Shearer made a sensational save at the end and the whole ground applauded and that's why we play him.

"Griffin Park is a tough place to go and we've beaten a good team. I think Brentford will be in the top six come the end of the season."

Striker Daniel Nardiello missed the game due to an achilles injury. He is due to return to training this week but is not expected to figure in tomorrow's Football League Trophy tie away to York City.

Evans confirmed that he will use the match as an opportunity to blood some players who have been waiting for a chance to prove themselves.
