Athletics stalwart dies

TRIBUTES are flowing in after the death of a Rotherham sporting stalwart.

Mick Hague died at the weekend aged 75 after a career which involved many years competing and organising local athletics, having served for 25 years with Rotherham Harriers.

The news has brought a welter of tributes, especially on social media, while Harriers mainstay David Haywood added that Mick’s contribution to sport in Rotherham has been outstanding.

He said: “Mick’s death came as a great shock to everyone at the club..

“He was a loyal servant for some 25 years including some outstanding athletics performances.

“We shouldn’t lose sight of his outstanding contribution to local athletics and to the town in general, he’ll be a sad loss.”
