Adam soars to new best

VAULTER Adam Hague soared to a new personal best at the Senior British Championships at the Insitute of Sport.

The 16-year-old from Kimberworth finished eighth in the invitation-only event but took his top clearance to a new level when he beat his previous best of 5m by a hefty 15cm.

Adam had to work hard off bigger and stronger poles to compete with Britain's elite vaulters such as his training partner Luke Cutts, from Thurnscore, who won the event with a vault of 5.60.

Coach Trevor Fox said: "Adam equipped himself well and vaulted brilliantly on new poles he only tried in the warm up.

"That takes  guts and good technical ability and Adam has both."

Next up for Adam is his own National Championships and then he heads into the outdoor campaign.
