Zoe's day to remember as town's Little Mayor

ROBES and chain were donned by a primary school pupil in Rotherham.

Now in its 25th year, Rotherham’s unique tradition of having a Little Mayor for the Day returned when Zoe Fathers assumed Mayoral duties alongside The Mayor of Rotherham, Maggi Clark, and Consort Peter Clark.

Little Mayor Zoe said: “Being deputy for the afternoon last year was a fantastic experience, so a full day is even better, it’s a real honour.”

A hectic day of activities began with Zoe being picked up in the Mayoral car from her house, then heading on to the Town Hall for a robing ceremony, official letter signing and a press call.

Zoe, a student at Dinnington Primary School, also visited Wentworth Garden Centre for a tour around their Family Farm, dropped by at Sandygate Residential Care Home, in Wath, to surprise one of its residents on her 107th birthday and hosted a lunch at the Town Hall with Deputy Little Mayor Liam Walker, a student at Bramley Grange Primary School.

The afternoon’s activities took the pair to a Hallowe’en Family Fun Day at Boston Castle and for tea and scones at Scarlett’s Coffee Bar and Deli.

The Mayor of Rotherham, Cllr Maggi Clark, added: “Little Mayor for the Day is a wonderful tradition, unique to Rotherham, and one I’m very glad we celebrate.

“I’m so pleased to welcome Zoe to Rotherham Town Hall and show her what an honour it is to be the First Citizen of the town.”
