Who speaks for England?

Sir, Below is an extract from email sent to delegates at the forthcoming Conservative party conference.

"Sunday 2nd October

  • 14.00 Opening of Conference Fiona Hodgson, Conference Chairman Sayeeda Warsi, Co-Chairman of the Conservative Party
  • 14.20 A United Kingdom Session to include contributions from the floor – click here to send us your contribution • Owen Paterson, Secretary of State for Northern Ireland Cheryl Gillan, Secretary of State for Wales David Mundell, Minister of State at the Scotland Office Andrew RT Davies, Leader of the Welsh Assembly
  • 15.20 The Environment and Climate Change Session to include contributions from the floor – click here to send us your contribution
  • etc… See 14:20 “A United Kingdom”. With speakers from Northern Ireland, Wales and Scotland.

But of course there is no-one to speak for England. The Conservative view of the United Kingdom is that there is no England.

Quite why the Conservative and Unionist Party would want to deny the foundations of the Union they profess to love is a mystery.

In the long run their denial of England will damage both the Conservative party and the Union.
