Remember councillors who let green belt go

IN response to the letter from Mr Simon Collett concerning the despoiling of our green belt and the fact that the ‘independent’ inspector, Mr Hollox, has advised Rotherham Planners that it is against government policy to prioritise brown field land before

At the time of their election this Coalition informed the electorate that they would be the greenest government yet. Ms Champion forwarded my letter to Eric Pickles who in turn passed it on to the planning minister, Nick Bowles, from whom I received a letter confirming that it is government policy to retain green belt wherever possible.

There was no response to the points I raised on increased flooding risk to the centre of Rotherham, the possibility of sink holes occurring due to the land of Bassingthorpe Farm having old coal mining and iron stone works beneath it plus the creation of urban sprawl.

I therefore contacted the MP again to be advised that this was a planning matter and my correspondence had been passed to the Rotherham planners. Where does the buck stop when the village of Greasbrough, mentioned in the Domesday Book and a farm operative since 1365 has been destroyed?

We are again hearing of the devastating effects of climate change throughout the world with the resultant failure of crops and therefore food shortages. Increasing population due to EEC policy and therefore demand for more food with reduced capacity to supply is madness

I too hope that the people of Rotherham and particularly Greasbrough will remember at the May elections that sitting councillors assured us that they were in favour of protecting green belt and then immediately voted for the plan to build on it.

Indeed the Bassingthorpe Farm land was offered to developers at an appreciably reduced rate of tax per acre which if not illegal is certainly immoral.
