Not so smart motorways

I AM fed up with this smart motorway garbage.

Thought up by some PC imbecile and companies intent on milking the government out of taxpayers’ money, it is a con.

We have had variable speed limits for years in some places. They did nothing except slow traffic down, maybe no bad thing in some places or times of day. But not suitable all over.

I also notice that increasing the speed limit has not been mentioned for some time.

If you can have variable limits down you should be able to increase them as well. For example to 80 after midnight to 5 in the morning.

I have noticed no extra police presence on the motorway either to combat the idiots who sit in the centre lane at 68 miles an hour instead of moving over asap.

When these variable speed limits drop to 60 or 50 on the gantries they seem to stay like that because the operator has gone to sleep and they stay like that for hours even with no traffic.

It was not meant for lazy operators or the Highway Agency or councils to decide we want to have a permanent lower limit here. They are circumventing the legislation but as usual the inept people supposedly overseeing smart motorways have not a clue.

And savvy companies and PC departments in the councils run rings round them.

Someone needs to get a grip of the useless Highways Agency and root out the inefficient or worse. South and West Yorks councils have a lot to answer for with the holdups around here. The just do not care, if it looks PC do it.

A plague on all their houses.

If you look at the improvements done on the A1/M1 from Leeds going North it was a lot more efficient then the lot up here, even with the Leeming bottleneck.
