No sense over solar panels

Sir -  We live in a world where the oil and gas reserves are running out.

We live in a country where the present, and past government want us to be eco-friendly and find new ways to generate power.

So can some one please tell me in what country, and on what world, do Rotherham council live.

They have built, and are still building, new eco-friendly homes, yet the same doesn't seem to apply to existing properties.

Case in point. On hearing a radio commercial from a Rotherham company saying they can supply and fit electricity generating solar panels free of charge, I contacted Rotherham council to get the low down on having them fitted to my council house.

I am disabled and spend a lot of time indoors, thereby using quite a bit of electricity on a shower, stair lift and charging an electric wheelchair.

I am also online and have satellite TV. It's better than staring at the ceiling and twiddling my thumbs.

On enquiring about the rules, I was told that Rotherham council does not allow the fitting of solar panels to older properties. The excuse I was given was that, if and when the tenantt leaves the property in question, for whatever reason, there is nobody working at the council who can maintain the solar panels.

So whose maintaining the panels on these new builds? This makes no sense to me and smacks of Rotherham council not being bothered.
