LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Paul was a good, honest, hard-working councillor

REGARDING the resignation of Cllr Paul Hague and the way that he has been portrayed in the Advertiser as not doing any member work and not attending any meetings.

Since Paul stepped back, what has the Labour party done? Zilch. That’s how they work.

Paul has his own business to run and has had problems no one would wish on anyone, and I’m sure in this climate that we are living in needs more support than ever, and as such has decided to resign from the council, and all this paper can do is criticise him.

Paul was a councillor for a number of years and did a fantastic job. Just because you’re not being photo shot and appearing in the paper like Labour do doesn’t mean you’re not doing anything, unlike Sylvester who is always quick to criticise and forever writing to the Advertiser.

I have noticed that he doesn’t write quite as much as he used to, maybe he has got a job  and found out it’s not that easy working and having a family and wanting to help your community.

The Labour councillors may find it easier because not many have jobs. I know that Sylvester will be made up by Paul going but Thorpe Hesley will not be a better place for him going and the council is losing a caring councillor.

We are losing a good honest hard-working man unlike some who have never worked and don’t pay rent or council tax and don’t care about the town or area that they live in.

I suppose that because Sylvester does an occasional litter pick (that will teach people not to drop litter!) that’s it then.

Sylvester did say when he became a councillor that he would resign if his attendance was lower than promised, and it has been.

Having a business or working should not exclude you from being a councillor, sometimes that’s what the council needs, people who will strive for a better place where we live and work, not just people who have no conception of the real world where all is not an entitlement but has to be earned.

Since Labour took over my area I’m living in a sh*t hole. Who made Sylvester in charge of members’ attendances anyway?

We are still waiting for Sylvester to resign and keep to his word, but I won’t hold my breath; all mouth and no backbone — and to Paul, good luck in all you do, it’s been a pleasure knowing you.
