LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Fresh start!

JOHN Healey joined Starmer this week in saying it is not good enough that Boris has resigned, the country needs a fresh start.

I’m not sure a fresh start would count as reinstalling Healey back into power with his previous record of ministerial office including supporting increased privatisation of the NHS, introduction of tuition fees, an illegal war in Iraq, widening inequality gap between South Yorkshire and the South East, and failure to address miners’ pensions.

In Rotherham we continue to be ruled by a Blairite adminstration that contracts out all public services with everything from cemeteries to parking enforcement run for profit. While next-door Doncaster is building leisure centres and investing in children’s services, we have a council in Rotherham constrained by the legacy of PFI contracts dating from Healey’s time in power.

John Healey may be many things, but a fresh start is not what he represents.
