I'd rather see a gay kiss than a straight street fight

Some people are gay: get over it. In response to Jim Fletcher’s letter praising the bus driver in the Stonewall row, I would like to know how he equates the Stonewall advertisement to displaying homosexual acts in public.

Like him, I too “find it most distasteful to see two (persons) thrusting their tongues down each other’s throat in public”, whether they be male or female.

I didn’t know Woodsetts had a thriving gay scene, as unlike Mr Fletcher I have yet to witness gay men kissing passionately in public. I would find this more acceptable than seeing men fighting in the street which in Rotherham is far more common.

In September 2010 The Advertiser reported on the arrest of a man for having sex with a woman in the register office car park. Mr Fletcher will have to remind me of his letter expressing his concern over that incident. Many bus banners promote alcohol, lingerie and films containing sex and violence; I don’t recall any drivers refusing to work a shift in protest.

Gay people are an embattled minority; suffering threats, taunts and violence on a daily basis. School pupils are victims of bullying when others simply perceive them to be gay. Well done to Stonewall for standing up for them! Gay people pay bus fare too, and they drive buses, and pay taxes which contributed to your police salary, Mr Fletcher. So perhaps we can afford gay people the right to hold hands in public just like everyone else.
