I interviewed Labour leader Ed Miliband!

FOR two weeks I was on work experience at the Rotherham Advertiser based at Manvers.

The whole experience was great and I couldn’t have asked for a nicer welcome from all the staff.

I was given tasks like writing wedding reports, getting quotes from locals and articles about events in the area.

However, on my last day I did my first interview with someone you wouldn’t expect for a 15-year-old...Labour leader Ed Miliband.

He was visiting Montagu Hospital in Mexborough to see the new multi-million pound rehab building, currently being built, and chat with patients on the existing wards.

We followed him around different parts of the hospital where he spent time talking to patients and watching one have a scan on his abdomen with one of the new machines available at the hospital.

Due to some patients not wanting to be disturbed by all the reporters, Mr Miliband continued the tour, and after this I got the chance to ask him a few questions.

It’s fair to say I was quite nervous considering my first interview with someone was a man who could quite possibly be running the country in a few years.

He said he’d enjoyed his visit and asked how long I’d been on work experience and which school or college I was at, to which I replied Wath Comprehensive.

While chatting about how I was getting on with my GCSEs a few photographers were taking pictures which was pretty exciting though quite nerve-wracking.

I wasn’t entirely sure if I would get the chance to talk to him for a while but the fact that I did was great.

On the whole Mr Miliband is a really nice man and he showed real interest in what the hospital had to offer, and the people in it which was great to see.

Although I did feel quite small in comparison to all the reporters surrounding him, it was fantastic to be a part of and being able to speak to him was brilliant.
