God Save The People!
Sir--I doubt if Masbrough-born Corn Law Rhymer Ebenezer Elliot would have been pleased with local bars using his name or promoting the Royal celebrations.
The radical Chartist wrote a poem God Save The Peopledirectly countering God Save The Queen.
"When wilt thou save the people Oh God of mercy! When?#
"Not kings and lords, but nations!
"Not thrones and crowns, but men!
"Flowers of thy heart, oh, God, are they!
"Let them not pass, like weeds, away!
"Their heritage a sunless day! God! save the people!"
I think he would have been on the "stuff the Jubilee" side today.
