Council positions come without responsibility

COUNCILLOR John Gilding for some time has been making comment on the inaction of Rotherham councillors on anything to do with the council, no matter what.

There is the operation at lower levels, but the managers, chief executive, councillors etc seem unaware as to how they are responsible for what the council does — apart from Cllr Gilding.

He knows that the managers are responsible for what the council do, the chief executive is responsible for the manager and the councillors are responsible for all below.

We have seen how the reports in the Rotherham advertiser show how the council function. we would have thought with some cases the police would be involved, but it seems not. No matter how Cllr Gilding looks at things, no other councillor does. They don’t seem to know what to do and have to rely on the council to tell them. When this does not tally, they are left high and dry.

However, Cllr Gilding does not seem to be in a position to do anything about it, no matter who he informs. They seem to have their positions without responsibility.

So when the chief executive fails for one reason or another they left him make decisions on their behalf without them knowing about it.

Every decision made by the council should go through the councillors as they are responsible for the council, as is the Chief Constable of the police force for the police.

So if in Rotherham it goes wrong, who is going to sort it out? Cllr John Gilding has for many years been informing the council of this situation.
