Bullying Victim Speaks Out

BULLYING is something that most people have probably heard about, it’s a very widespread issue that really needs to be taken more seriously, not only in our community but the whole of our country.

Children aren’t really taught how to deal with bullying.

Sixty-nine per cent of children in the UK have reported being bullied at some point in their lives, but what about those who haven’t reported it?

You see, not many people speak out if they are getting bullied as they might be scared about the consequences of seeking help, but they need to be made aware about how important it is to tell someone about bullying if it occurs, be it a teacher, friend, family member or school counsellor.

The victim might change how they dress to fit into certain cliques which might be around at that time, even if it doesn’t really stop the bullying.

The victim might also behave in a different manner and develop some increasingly worrying issues which can lead from bullying and intimidation.

Some of the most common effects include Body Dismorphic Disorder, changes in eating behaviours, anxiety, depression, self-harming behaviours, being tearful when asked about school, poor academic results and preferring to stay at home than going out

I have first-hand experience of being bullied, I was different from all the other kids and nobody really understood me.

The older you get the worse the bullying gets and this was the case for me.

I got verbal abuse, physical abuse and online abuse.

The thing that made it worse was I couldn’t get away from it, because it followed me everywhere.

When I got home from school I’d have emails and texts from people who wanted to bring me down.

School shouldn’t have to be this way, there are so many people who want to help young people get through bullying, and they need to speak out.

One of my favourite quotations I live by is: “Don’t let other people dim your heart-light, just because it’s shining in their eyes!”

I hope that other people can live by this too, as it is a great way to think about your life in a positive outlook.
