Sir—I am absolutely flabbergasted to read on-line that Maltby Grammar School is to be demolished.

I recall in my school days, in the 1940s getting off the bus on Rotherham Road, looking up at that grand clock on the front of the grammar school building and always thinking what an impressive site the school held.
Majestic! An icon for the village of Maltby and I am sure that former students would be horrified to see the school’s architectural frontage disappear along with its famous timepiece.
I pray that the plans to demolish are squashed and Maltby Academy is retained, like the ancient Roche Abbey buildings.
