AN pork pie with duck and homemade plum sauce has helped a Tickhill butcher win a pile of prestigious prizes.

AN pork pie with duck and homemade plum sauce has helped a Tickhill butcher win a pile of prestigious prizes.

Eaton’s Butchers, of Tickhill, took home  the Overall Champion title for their Oriental-inspired pork pie and duck combo at the East Midlands leg BPEX Awards for Meat Product Excellence 2011.

The recipe was created by Angela Eaton (43 who also ook gold in the speciality cold pie category for a pork pie with pheasant and redcurrant jelly.

Eaton’s also got a perfect score for their pork faggots and received a silver certificate for a lemon and thyme pork sausage.

Proud owner Paul Eaton (50) put competition success by the family-run business down to their local ingredients, including pork sourced from nearby farms.

He said: “People come from all over when we win an award—it’s great.

“When you’re going up against the supermarkets you’ve got to keep making everything better than they do.”

Angela added: “We really enjoy taking part in competitions and evaluations, and it is a fantastic buzz to do so well.

“It’s also a great talking point for customers when our awards go on display.”
