World's fastest car on display at careers event

A CAREERS fair - due to be held at Magna tomorrow - will have a special guest of a different kind.

The world’s fastest car, Bloodhound, will be on display at the annual Get Up To Speed event, which is aimed at getting young people into the engineering, manufacturing and technology industries.

The event, which is backed by Rotherham Borough Council and Sheffield City Council, will run at the venue on Wednesday, April 20 from 10am until 6pm.

John Barber, chairman of the organising committee, said: “This year is shaping up to be the biggest, best, most interactive yet.

“We have so many exhibitors and attractions that The Big Hall at Magna just can't house them all so we have had to extend into other parts of the building.

“Getting Bloodhound to the event is a real coup. It really is the ultimate demonstration of British engineering and technology and it's amazing to think that many of the parts for the car are designed and manufactured here in the Sheffield City Region.

“We hope that the students and business people who see it will be inspired by what is a truly remarkable piece of engineering.”

Bloodhound will be on display throughout the event and a member of the car's development team will be speaking at a networking event from 5pm to 8pm.

The car is being built to attempt to set a new 1,000 mph land speed record in South Africa later this year. Its construction is being followed by school children across the globe in a project designed to stimulate interest in science.
