Worker hurt in glass factory accident

A WORKMAN was stable but sedated in hospital yesterday after he was crushed in an incident at a Rotherham glass factory.

Emergency services were called to Beatson Clark on Greasbrough Road at around 12.45pm on Tuesday after the 24-year-old man was reported injured.

An air ambulance was dispatched, but the worker was taken to Northern General Hospital by road.

Marketing manager Charlotte Taylor confirmed that the incident had occurred, but could not give details of the circumstances or injuries caused.

She said: “Our thoughts and concerns are with the employee.

“We know that he is stable but still sedated. We’re trying to stay up to date, but the doctors aren’t telling us much.”

Inspectors from the Health and Safety Executive are currently investigating.

An HSE spokeswoman confirmed that staff visited the factory on Tuesday.

Ms Taylor said that inspectors were again on the site on Thursday morning but would not give any further details.

Founded in in 1751, Rotherham manufacturer Beatson Clark produces glass bottles and jars for the food, drink and pharmaceutical industries.
