Work placement opportunity for green-minded young people

YOUNG people with an interest in conservation are being offered an opportunity by a wildlife group.

The Yorkshire Wildlife Trust is looking for 24 trainees aged 16 to 24 to join a 12-month placement developing their skills and experience within the conservation sector.

The Tomorrow’s Natural Leaders will give people experience in reserves management, habitat restoration, biodiversity monitoring, events management, campaigning, outreach and education.

The scheme will match skills and experience with local employers in the green sector.

A spokesperson for the Trust — which runs local nature reserves at Denaby Ings, Sprotbrough Flash, Maltby Low Common and Potteric Carr near Balby — said: “This summer Yorkshire Wildlife Trust will be looking to develop Tomorrow’s Natural Leaders as part of the Our Bright Future programme which is funded by the National Lottery through the Big Lottery Fund.

“This exciting new project is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for young adults who are looking for practical on-the-job training and are motivated to improve local green spaces for people and wildlife.

“Trainees will develop portfolios culminating in a self-led project to inspire young people to value and take action for wildlife and local communities across Yorkshire.

“Placements will be based at five locations across Yorkshire including Pickering, Flamborough, Hull, Doncaster and Huddersfield.”
