Woman rehomed after roof collapses in Broom house fire

FIREFIGHTERS were called to a property in Broom yesterday after the roof caught fire and collapsed.

Rotherham fire station got the call from a resident at 108 Lathe Road in Broom at around noon yesterday.

The team had to extinguish the fire using an aerial ladder platform.

The female resident, whose parents were on holiday, had to evacuate the house and has been temporarily re-homed in a hotel.

Next door's residents were also evacuated because the blaze had spread to their roof as well.

Fire crews were at the scene for about five hours.

A spokesman from South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue said the cause of the fire was still under investigation.
