Woman freed from olive oil tin by Maltby firefighters

A WOMAN had to be freed from a tin of olive oil by firefighters after her hand became stuck.

The woman, of Hollywell Lane, Braithwell, was rescued to by Maltby firefighters this afternoon.

South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue (SYFR) said the woman put her hand into the tin to remove part of a pump which had fallen in.

Firefighters used metal cutters and pliers to bend back the metal so she could remove her fingers.

Watch manager Adam Bramall from SYFR, said: “Rescuing someone from a tin of olive oil is certainly a first for us.

“It’s just another example of the unusual incidents we come across on a day to day basis.”

The woman escaped with only minor cuts.

SYFR carries out more than 1,400 “special service” rescues each year — from animal rescues and road traffic collisions, to flooding and lift releases.
