Wilson ready for Indy 500 showpiece

JUSTIN Wilson needed only one qualifying attempt to make certain of his place in this Sunday’s Indianapolis 500.

The Rotherham racer posted an average four-lap speed of 226.370 mph, which was good enough to put his Honda in the middle of row five for the 97th running of one of the world’s biggest motorsport events.

It will be Wilson’s sixth start in the race, at the track where he scored his maiden Formula One points while driving for Jaguar ten years ago, as he looks to build on his seventh place standing in the IndyCar championship rankings.

“It was great to qualify on day one with a great lap time,” said Wilson. “The team did great job and I couldn’t be more pleased with our results.

“We will start in the middle of the fifth row, which gives us a great opportunity in the race. We will continue to work on race set-up on Sunday and I’m looking forward to a good finish.

“My parents will be here as well as a lot of relatives and friends, so wife Julia and I will be plenty busy this week.
