Water safety tips to be handed out by tragic Sam’s parents

THE parents of a Rotherham student who tragically drowned at a beauty spot will join fire officers this weekend to hand out open water tips.

Simon and Gaynor Haycock, whose 16-year-old son Sam drowned at Ulley Country Park last May, will be at Manvers Lake from 11am onwards on Saturday as part of their campaign to raise awareness of open water dangers in Sam’s memory.

Fire service officials will be dispensing tips and teaching visitors to Manvers Waterfront Boat Club how to use throwlines and other life-saving equipment.

Money raised in memory of the East Dene teenager by the campaign group Sam’s Army Mission will fund a new throwline station at Manvers.
