Warning after elderly woman robbed at Tesco cash point in Rotherham town centre

AN ELDERLY woman using a town centre cash point was pushed to the floor before the robber took her money and left the scene.

Her concerned relative has contacted the Advertiser following the incident to advise people, especially those with vulnerabilities, to be careful around ATMs, saying: “If possible please go with someone who can help you and keep a look-out.

“The assailant will push a person out of way not caring who they may hurt.”

The relative said the robbery took place at the cash points at Tesco in Drummond Street between 7.30pm and 8.30pm last Monday.

The suspect was wearing dark clothing, a woollen hat with the hood up and carrying a rucksack on his back, they added.

A spokesperson for South Yorkshire Police said they were called at about 8.35am the following morning by a member of staff at the Tesco store reporting an incident of robbery the previous evening.

“It is reported that at about 8.10pm that evening, an elderly woman was at the cash point outside the store taking money out of the machine,” the spokesperson said.
