Villagers invited to help spend £1m

VILLAGERS are being urged to get involved in a £1 million scheme to transform their community.

Monday’s Thurcroft Gala will see the launch of Thurcroft Big Local, an initiative aiming to bring together all the local talent, ambitions, skills and energy from individuals, groups and organisations who want to make the village a better place to live.

Thurcroft’s huge award — to be spent over ten years — is part of a pioneering Big Lottery Fund scheme to put decision-making power with the people.

Projects can include anything from creating new community facilities to employment initiatives and boosting activities for young people.

Anyone interested in getting involved should visit the Thurcroft Big Local stall during Monday’s event, which runs from noon to 4pm at the Recreational Field on New Orchard Lane.

Attractions include a play circus, inflatable football pitch, climbing wall, tug of war, five-a-side football and catering vans with burgers, hot dogs and ice creams.

Kids activities include hook-a-duck, small roundabout rides and an inflatable slide, face painting and firefighters with their fire engine.

Big Local is offering free raffle ticket for everyone who contributes their visions for Thurcroft with the prize being a £100 Fairtrade hamper.

Organiser Ken Brierton has appealed for stewards to work at this event.

A free meal voucher will be given to each volunteer steward.

Any profits will be donated to Rotherham Hospice.

Car parking is available at T.P. Trading, New Orchard Lane, on the right past the mini roundabout.
