Youngsters suffer injuries in accident on the Parkway

A BOY of two suffered a broken leg and a baby was injured when the van they were passengers in hit a broken down vehicle on the Parkway between Rotherham and Sheffield.

The stricken Mercedes 208D van was on the nearside lane with its hazards on near the Handsworth exit while the driver, a 48-year-old man, waited on the grass verge.

A white Mercedes Sprinter van heading towards Sheffield, carrying the two children, hit the back of the stationary vehicle at about 6.20pm on Monday (15).

The driver, a 27-year-old man from Sheffield, suffered serious injuries and a six-month-old baby sustained slight injuries, police said.

The 48-year-old man, from Rotherham, was arrested and bailed for being over the drink-drive limit. Witnesses are asked to call 101 quoting incident 1044 of July 15.
