Youngsters learn lessons of computer games

Top names from the video game industry will attending Games Britannia, a week-long event organised by the IT department at Brinsworth Academy.

The aim is to show that video games and education can mix.

Youngsters will have a chance to put their gaming skills to the test on vintage consoles such as the Sinclair ZX-81 and ZX Spectrum, Sega Mega Drive and Sony Playstation.

Also on show will be some rarer and more obscure machines, including the MB Vectrex, Amstrad GX4000 and SNK Neo Geo Pocket.

Leading names from the industry will also be attending, including top games producer Steve Lycett, Commodore 64 music composer Ben Daglish—creator of more than 100 game soundtracks—and Sheffield Hallam University’s senior lecturer in games development, Ritchie Moore.

Supporters of the festival, which runs from next Monday to Friday, include TV and radio presenter Iain Lee, who provided a video introduction to the event.
