Youngsters evacuated from school after fire

PUPILS had to be evacuated from a primary school after an electrical fire in the basement.

Firefighters were called to Wincobank Nursery Infant School, Newman Road, just before 11am, after the small blaze began.

Two crews from Rotherham station and one from Parkway attended and all children were evacuated safely.

Crews remained on site to await electrical engineers, who will make sure that the school is safe, a fire service spokeswoman said.

The Advertiser could not reach the school for an update this afternoon.
