YES! project axed

ROTHERHAM Borough Council has cancelled the contract for a colossal leisure project in the Rother Valley.

The authority was unhappy at YES! Project developers Oak Holdings lack of progress on the former Pit House West Site.

The project aimed to become home to a mixture of indoor leisure pursuits and bring 2,000 permanent jobs.

Karl Battersby, strategic director of environment development services said: “This is not a decision we have taken lightly and was based on our view of the likelihood of the project being delivered by Oak Holdings.

“This scheme has been running for over ten years and has not progressed as we would have wished.”

He added that alternate opportunities were being explored to fulfil the “massive potential” of the site.

Oak will continue to run neighbouring Rother Valley Country Park.
