Wood: I want to play as often as I can

INJURY-troubled Rotherham United have brought in Brentford winger Sam Wood on loan and the 25-year-old says: “I want to get in as many games as I can.”

Wood was signed by boss Andy Scott ahead of yesterday’s loan deadline after United’s string of injuries was compounded by Gareth Evans’ sidelining for seveal weeks with an ankle injury.

Said Wood: “I went to Brentford as a left back but ended up playing in midfield. I can also play down the left or right.

“I want to play as many games as possible until my loan’s up in January. I’ve seen the way Rotherham  play, they’ve got the players to get into the play-offs and even into the automatic places. I’ll see how it goes.”

Scott says Evans’ ankle damage, the result of a meaty tackle at Valley Parade last week, is the latest setback.

“We’ve had a lot of injury problems and this is the latest,” he said. “It’s a blow because Gareth has done very well and he is an important player for us.”

The Millers take on League Two new boys Crawley Town–chasing a 12th unbeaten game–at Don Valley tomorrow (3pm).
