Woman assaulted on Denaby Craggs

POLICE are seeking a man who tried to drag a woman into bushes on Denaby Craggs.

Officers believe the assault on the 26-year-old woman may be linked to other sex attacks in the same area.

The woman was walking along a footpath at around 2.20pm on Thursday, November 20 when she was grabbed from behind and pulled towards the bushes.

She was able to break free and fled uninjured, but police described her as “incredibly distressed and shaken by the incident”.

Her attacker is described as white, aged around 30 years old and of a medium build. He looked dishevelled with brown stubble high on his cheeks and dark circles under his eyes.

He also had a noticeable, sore-looking spot to the right of his nose and smelled of alcohol.

He was wearing a burgundy hooded top and loose fitting black trousers. It is thought he may have been hiding in the undergrowth before the attack.

DS Andy Knowles said: “We would like to speak to anyone who may have information relating to this incident and to anybody who was on the Craggs between 1.30pm and 2.30pm that day.

“In particular, we would like to speak to a man who was seen walking a tan-coloured, staffy type dog that afternoon, as he may hold vital information to assist with the investigation.

“He is described as aged around 60 years old, approximately 5ft 5ins tall with grey hair.

He was wearing a grey knitted jumper and brown trousers. If you believe this may be you, or you know the identity of the man, please contact officers.”

Anyone with information can call police on 101, quoting incident number 574 of November 20, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
