Water pumping station to become underground family home

PLANS for a water pumping station to become an underground family home have been given the green light.

The conversion of the ex-Yorkshire Water building, Rawmarsh, will use the existing structure, mostly covered by grass.

Cadvis3d Architectural Design Services said the development made innovative use of a derelict green belt building.

A spokesman added: "The proposals will result in a unique and individual bespoke family home, which will be highly energy efficient and heavily insulated, due to its semi-subterranean design."

A modern extension to the south of the structure will be mostly glass. In passing the plans, Rotherham Borough Council noted the unusual character of the site.
